I was born in Boston and grew up in Bangkok and Norwich. I now live and work in London.

I studied for an Interior Architecture degree in Manchester, a city with a thriving community of radical performance makers. Inspired by companies such as Impact Theatre, Forced Entertainment and Dogs in Honey, I found my vocation as a designer for performance and went on to complete the Motley Theatre Design Course.

Since then I have collaborated on many experimental and devised productions for non-theatre spaces and art venues as diverse as the ICA, the Barbican and Tate Britain. I have designed Shakespeare plays for the Globe and the RSC, big plays at the National Theatre, new plays at the Royal Court, musicals large and small, dance pieces at Sadler’s Wells and the Vienna Volksoper, and sets for English National Oopera, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, New Zealand Opera and Houston Grand Opera.

My first love was, and remains, avant-garde theatre. I’m an associate artist with innovative companies Imitating the Dog and Duckie, and was a longtime collaborator on Tom McCarthy’s International Necronautical Society.

For the last five years I have been developing my own projects, initiating unconventional collaborations to devise original performance work.

Ceramics is my other great enthusiasm. Working with the materiality of clay inspires and invigorates my theatre practice, and vice versa.
